A day with the app
I-95 at eight in the morning. The storm warning that catches everyone off guard. The chain control you only find out about at the checkpoint. You know the story. With the app, you are the one who knows first, without searching.
Illustrative examples. The alerts you get depend on the places, routes and alerts you choose.
VDOT reports a crash in the left lanes and the backup is already long. Your commute goes that way: there is still time to leave earlier or take another road.
The National Weather Service has issued it. If you drive home on I-25 tonight, you know before you set off, not halfway there.
Caltrans has closed the road in both directions. You see on the map where it is and how far the closure runs, without hunting through the news.
Caltrans has put chain controls in place. You find out tonight on the couch, not tomorrow at the checkpoint.
What you will get
Today it is one app for your state's roads, another for the weather, a fire map for wildfires and the news for the rest. In the app it is all together, filtered for where you live and where you drive. One glance and you are done.
Open the app and see straight away what is happening around you: closures, crashes and work zones from the state DOTs, National Weather Service alerts and wildfire closures. All sorted by distance, with the source of each one.
Save the trips you always make, like your commute or the school run. Before the time you usually leave, the app checks for anything on the way and only tells you if there is.
Pick your places (home, work, your parents' town) and what you want to hear about. NWS warnings for your places, closures on your routes and chain controls on the passes reach you without you having to look.
The map with everything that is live, mountain passes and chain controls, the nearest EV charger and border wait times. What you already use on the site, now in your pocket.
Turn-by-turn navigation comes in a later phase. For now the app tells you what is going on; to be guided to your destination, keep using the maps app you prefer.
Why it is different
Everything you see comes from 47 official sources, the same ones Live Roads USA uses and credits every day. No rumours or stray reports: every alert says where it comes from.
When a storm or a fire hits, the official warnings are already out, but they reach you through channels you are not reading while you drive. A wildfire or a winter storm can close a highway quickly. That is why a National Weather Service warning for one of your places, or a closure on your route, always reaches you, even during quiet hours.
You create a free account and we keep the places, routes and alerts you choose there, so we can warn you in time. We do not track where you go or keep a history of your trips. If you delete the account, everything goes with it.

We do not have a date yet and would rather not promise one. We are building it on top of what Live Roads USA already does every day. Everyone on the list hears first and can try it before anyone else.
Nothing. The app is free: download it, create your account and use it, without paying.
Yes, but it is free and takes a minute. The account keeps your places, your routes and your alert preferences, so the app knows what to warn you about. If you change phones, it is all there waiting for you.
We keep only what you choose: your account email, places, routes and alerts. We do not track where you go or keep a history of your trips. If you delete your account, everything in it goes too.
Yes. The app is coming to the US, built on the official sources Live Roads USA already reads, state by state. There is no date yet; people on the list will be among the first to try it.
iPhone and Android. You can tell us which one you use in the form, which helps us plan the testing.
Only the ones you choose. You set the places, routes and kinds of alert you care about, and you can set quiet hours, at night for example. The exception is severe alerts, like a National Weather Service warning for one of your places or a closure on your route: those always get through.
